    [photo, Calvert County Board of Elections, Community Resources Building, 30 Duke St., Prince Frederick, Maryland] Since July 2012, the State Board of Elections has made available an Online Voter Registration (OLVR) System. From the Board's website, voters now can register to vote in federal, State, county and municipal elections in Maryland. They also can update their registration to reflect change of name, address, or party affiliation. Additionally, Marylanders can register to vote by completing a voter registration application at the State Board of Elections, any local board of elections, local department of social services, local office on aging, or at one of the following agencies:

  • Voting Methods
    In the voter's county of residence, a registered voter may vote:
    1) on election day at an assigned polling place
    2) prior to election day at an early voting center
    3) by absentee ballot
    4) or by mail-in ballot

      • Primary Elections
        Next municipal primary election: June 28, 2022 (for circuit court clerk, orphans' court judges, register of wills, sheriff, & state's attorney)

        Next municipal primary election: April 26, 2024 (for mayor, city council, & comptroller)

        In Presidential Election years: normally held on 4th Tuesday in April (2024, 2028) (Chapter 332, Acts of 2015); Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-201).

      • General Elections
        Next municipal general election: November 3, 2020 (for mayor, city council, & comptroller)

        Next municipal general election: November 8, 2022 (for circuit court clerk, orphans' court judges, register of wills, sheriff, & state's attorney)

        In Presidential Election years: held on the Tuesday after 1st Monday in November (2020, 2024) (Chapter 548, Acts of 2012; Code Election Law Article, sec. 8-301).
